During two research studies that I conducted, I found that in many churches where a large percentage of the membership are Black women, they are often doing most of the work behind the scenes that sustains their churches’s functions and facilitates its discipleship practices. In these same churches, Black women’s voices and contributions are not given the same value as men who are in leadership roles, pulpits, and at tables where decision making is happening. Research shows that Black women are not only being overlooked in their congregations, but that they are exhausted from being overworked. Oftentimes, liberating mentorship and theological education are not encouraged in these settings because such does not benefit the patriarchy and would in fact dismantle the system that they need Black women to keep it going. I offer presentations and workshops that cultivate theological reflection and dynamic conversations that invite greater pursuits of wholeness and flourishing of Black women. Reach out to request a call and/or more information.
